The European Commission has approved the implementing decision for the Lyon-Turin railway link: a joint commitment signed by France, Italy, and the EU for the completion of all three sections of the infrastructure.
The document, which “sets out the actions and the timetable for the implementation of the cross-border rail project and its related access lines linking the urban nodes of Lyon and Turin,” was unanimously approved by the TEN-T Committee at the beginning of July and became official with its publication in the European Official Journal on 30 July 2025.
As a result of this act, for the first time all sections of the project—including the national sections (from Susa to Turin and from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Lyon), not just the cross-border section—are eligible for European Union funding.
The text also confirms the construction schedule for the section managed by TELT (between Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Susa), with commissioning expected for the end of 2033.
