TELT experience at WTC 2025

The base tunnel of the new Lyon-Turin railway line participated in the 2025 edition of the World Tunnel Congress (WTC) organised in Stockholm from 9 to 15 May. This annual event gathers the international tunnelling community to discuss innovation, sustainability, and big engineering challenges.

After participating in WTC in Athens, the 2025 edition is particularly important for TELT as it falls in an important year for the company: the celebration of its 10th anniversary. TELT participated with a technical delegation that shared the experience of one of the most complex underground construction sites in the world.

At TELT stand visitors had the opportunity to observe the work progress, the technologies adopted, and the solutions developed to excavate 164 km of tunnels.

TELT’s contribution to the Conference

Three conferences illustrated TELT’s expertise on key issues related to the Mont Cenis base tunnel construction. Maria Elena Parisi, TELT geology manager, illustrated slope movement monitoring carried out by satellite radar interferometry, with the paper “Slope movements monitoring by satellite radar interferometry in the excavation of the Mont Cenis Base Tunnel”. Achille Sorlini, TELT safety manager, discussed the topic of emergency management during excavation, presenting the paper “Emergency management during the construction of the Mont Cenis Tunnel: safety concept, applications, first experiences”, and Arnaud Taillandier, TELT construction engineering discussed the common rules of operations adopted in the cross-border construction site, with the conference “TELT Common Rules of Operations”.

Several international companies contributing to the construction of this huge project between Italy and France participated in the WTC.

TELT’s participation in the Stockholm congress was an important opportunity to share knowledge with the world tunnelling community and the strategic value of the Lion-Turin railway line for the European mobility of the future.

The date for the next edition is already set: the World Tunnel Congress 2026 will be held in Montréal, Canada, in May next year.
